Effects Of Drugs On Your Body And Brain

Drugs have been in existence since time immemorial. The use of drugs is not pegged to modern society only. The earliest known drug was a hallucinogenic mushroom. These mushrooms grew naturally. This however does not mean that drugs are good for anybody. The reason they were being used then is because there were no studies conducted to show the effects of drugs in one’s system. We can also excuse those who used drugs in the past because they only used those that grew naturally.

Technology and science have helped in the advancement of many fields and sadly one of the fields is that of drug manufacturing. A lot of drugs today are engineered in laboratories and then sold to the ignorant population. You would be shocked by the sheer number of chemical combinations used to come up with most of the drugs being sold today. Most of the things that are added to make modern day drugs affect one’s reasoning and hence the reason for increased drug abuse even when one is well aware of the effects of drugs. In this article we will be looking at the effects of two of the most commonly abused drugs in society today.

Cannabis is the first drug we will look into. Marijuana is another name for this drug though a lot of youths prefer to call it weed. Recent studies on cannabis have shown that it can be used in the treatment of some diseases and hence its legalization in a number of states. Most cannabis users are unable to react fast to some situations now because the drug numbs one’s central nervous system. In the long term, cannabis brings about paranoia and schizophrenia, especially in those who start using at an early age.

The second drug we will be looking at is cocaine. Cocaine, unlike alcohol and cannabis is a stimulant that gives one a high for some minutes. Users of cocaine tend to experience withdrawal after the high, leaving them with the need to have more of the drug, making this particular drug one of the most dangerous drugs in the market today. Since this drug fastens one’s heart rate, its users are in danger of having heart attacks or strokes. The after effects of cocaine are hallucinations, psychosis, sleep deprivation, loss of appetite and hence loss of weight and collapse of the wall dividing the nasal chamber because the snorting of cocaine causes nose sores.
