There is also an electric dispensary that is designed to make sure that efficient and consistent dispensing of active ingredients and excipient in a data environment that is considered secure and has full audit trace ability.

Bulk dispensing, manual dispensing, supervisory, receipt management and interfacing with external systems are what a electric dispensary is made up of. A part from dispensing medicine, electric dispensaries can also dispense substances such as alcohol, tobacco, vitamins and minerals.

A public dispensary is a dispensary that provides free or low cost medication and medical advice. A public dispensary can be also be referred to as charitable dispensary or free dispensary. During the ancestral period, there was a type of dispensary that allowed its patients to make small payments per week as an insurance so that if they got sick they would get their medicine there and it was referred to as provident dispensary.

Out-patient treatment was given in the provident dispensary to the ones that got ill. During the 19th century for example, members of a provident dispensary paid one penny per week and adults would pay half a penny per week for their children also. For people who wanted to be provident and independent had no problem with this type of agreement because they did not want to get charitable treatment that was offered to people who could not afford to pay for their medical bill but with hope of not paying the same charges as the rich ones.

One cannot get medicine from the dispensary without a doctor issued prescription. The first time you visit a dispensary the one who serves you makes a copy of your prescription and feeds it into the system along with any paper work you may have. If it is a condition that needs to be treated over a long period of time then your prescription should be renewed every year. An example of patients that require renewal of their prescription yearly are the ones prescribed to take marijuana – let us say cancer patients – because their situation may take longer than anticipated to treat. In other states, you will find that marijuana is legalized hence, you will discover recreational dispensaries that supply the local residents with it without any prescription.
